Burton Cummings has had his own way to rock for four decades. And this year, the Junos are acknowledging it.
The prairie rock legend and former Guess Who frontman will stand tall this weekend when he becomes the newest member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame — and the first whose award will be housed in Calgary’s new National Music Centre. It’s actually his second induction; his old band got the nod back in 1987. But getting another honour for solo hits like I’m Scared and Break it to Them Gently is a fine state of affairs, he admits.
“I have plenty of awards, but this is a real big deal for me,” the 68-year-old singer-pianist says down the line from his L.A. digs.”I sure wish my mom had lived just a couple of more years to see it.”
