An infant whose mother said was knocked unconscious by a puck at a Montreal Canadiens practice has been released from the hospital, according to multiple reports.

Players were soft-tossing pucks into the crowd at the open practice on Sunday when one thrown by P.K. Subban hit the one-month old in the head, the baby’s mother, Valérie Meloche, said on Facebook. According to multiple reports, the infant, named Beatrice, was given CPR at the scene and transported to Montreal Children’s Hospital in critical but stable condition.

She was kept under observation overnight and released the next day. She is expected to make a full recovery.

“Nobody knew,” Canadiens vice president of communications Donald Beauchamp said, according to multiple reports. “We found out [Monday] morning. I made P.K. aware of that. He had no idea.

“P.K. feels terrible, but he had no idea. He felt terrible at first, then he felt really happy to hear that all was good.”

A member of the Canadiens staff met with the family on Monday and invited them to view a game from a private suite at the Bell Centre.

“P.K. was so grateful [to hear the child was OK] and he can’t wait to meet with the family,” Beauchamp said, according to reports.

Beauchamp said that the team will look at the policy on tossing pucks into the stands.

“Apparently, it was freak accident. The puck was originally touched by an adult, who fumbled the puck. It touched two other people before ending up on the poor baby’s head,” he said.
