Near YELM, Wash. — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a pet dog owned by actress Salma Hayek.
Hayek is mourning the tragic death of her pet dog after it was found shot dead on her ranch near Yelm last week.
“I haven’t posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother’s womb,” the 49-year-old actress wrote.
The actress revealed the news on Instagram on Friday, announcing that her German Shepherd-mix dog Mozart was fatally shot.
“He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart,” Hayek wrote. “I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone.”
The well-known animal lover added, “He loved his territory and never strayed away… he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death.”
Hayek has often expressed her love for adopting animals, and told The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2013 that she has taken in many pets over the years.
“I have five horses, four alpacas, one cat, eight dogs, one hamster, five parrots, two fish, I’m sure I’m forgetting something!” she laughed. “Oh I forgot! I have bunny rabbits, I have turkeys, 20 chickens, same with the rabbits be careful just buy one.”
Hayek’s property is described as “modest” by Thurston County officials who also said they are in the early stages of investigating the incident.
