When Music Social sat down with new Country Rock artist Eric Lee Oswalt, the first impression of the 36 year old musician from Wetumpka, Alabama was, this is a good ol’ boy with a huge heart and full of confidence. You’re drawn to him or at least I was. I just knew I had to learn more about the boy behind the voice.
Although our staff haven’t had the opportunity to see Eric Lee perform live with guitarists, Trevor Davis and Billy Moore, we had the pleasure of tuning into his Youtube Channel and listen to him sing along with radio tunes. Particularly one video with his mom as acting camera crew while Eric Lee stands before her and the camera and sings, Failure by Breaking Benjamin.
How many people are able to just bare all with such rawness ? The ones who believe in themselves and the ones who believe they are good, that’s who.
According to his bio at ReverbNation he sounds like Aaron Lewis, Brent Smith, Chris Daughtry and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. We’ll let you be the judge of that. Take a listen to Eric Lee Oswalt singing, Won’t Take Me Down
Eric Lee has been singing since he was three years old. He can remember way back when he and his twin sister, Lisa, would pretend they were Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. They would sing Islands In the Stream and from then on Eric Lee was in love with the microphone. He went on to be influenced by Richard Marx, Michael Damian, New Kids on the Block, and other 80s and 90s bands.
Eric Lee credits his sister, friends and teachers, for supporting him and encouraging his talents to rise, when he thought he couldn’t really start reaching for his dream until now.
One particular influence, who just from listening to him means the world to him, is his Granny Maude Oswalt. Although no longer in the physical world, he says she was a huge supporter of his music and a great influence on his life. Eric says he wrote a song about Granny Maude that may be on his debut album The Journey Begins.
Eric says other profound Influences are his Aunt Blanche, Uncle Travis, his Daddy Joe , his mom, again his twin sister Lisa Ferris and his nephew Jude.
Family is obviously important to Eric and they offer a huge inspiration. Could be where he draws his strength to compete with so many other talents. Again, positive thoughts, confidence and talent will see him through.
Eric Lee has held down a few jobs to support his true calling. However, I just knew there was more to his story when we connected on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, and I was right. The more questions I poked at him, I was beginning to sense that I was about to be inspired, brimming with compassion and be overwhelmed with gratitude.
Eric Lee Oswalt was a soldier in the US Army for eight years with both the National Guard and US Army. He’s also very involved as a humanitarian. He says he and his friend Bob Levy are working with Warrior Pointe to try and get the veterans the resources that they need to help them acclimate back to civilian life. Eric Lee is also very partial to charities and organizations that bring awareness to bullying. I just want to hug him !!
For this Rock and Country singer, the very first song he ever sang in front of an audience was, End of the Road, by Boys 2 Men. Eric Lee didn’t elaborate on that comment too much, but it obviously went very well for him as he’s not deterred from reaching for his dreams. He says the fact that he loves music so much and he is good at it, is what made him pursue a career in music.
“I just love the singer and songwriter that I’ve become. I’ve learned so much from all of my life experiences that they are ammunition for the songs that I write. I also combine a little bit of all my musical influences in my songs. You will hear a little bit of everything, except rap”.
As for upcoming events, Eric Lee says, he, Billy Moore and Trevor Davis have to put some more music together. The trio anticipates their next show will be doing worship at GodSpeed Biker Ministries out of Montgomery, Alabama March 13 2016.
When witnessing Eric Lee Oswalt perform, he promises his audience;
“Expect to see me give it all I’ve got. Expect a great show and expect to get involved. Expect me to reach out and touch you literally and expect to come there one way and leave there never the same”.
He describes his music as, One. Long. Hard. Ride.
For those artists starting out, Eric wants you to remember:
CHASE YOUR DREAM. DO NOT LET ANYONE EVER TELL YOU THAT YOU AREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE THEN YOU GO FOR IT. AND IF YOU NEED WORK TO GET THERE, THEN WORK ON IT!! Never Back Down. Never Lose Hope. Keep The Faith. RockOn!! Love yall!! -Eric Lee
Look for Eric Lee Oswalt’s debut album, The Journey Begins, expected to be released by November 2016.
