Memorable duets onstage — included this song by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. The song topped the Billboard charts in 1982 and won the 1983 Oscar for Best Original Song, Up Where We Belong.

Actor Richard Gere initially opposed the final scene until he heard the extras cheering and crying behind him. He later said that mixing the song with the scene gave him chills. “The whole thing came together in 24 hours,” Cocker said.

30 years later Cocker and Warnes preformed together at the Oscars February 2013.

Joe Cocker died from lung cancer, December 22 2014 at the age of 70

In September 2011, Warnes toured Canada. In September – October 2012, she toured selected venues in Canada and the U.S.
