Prince Harry chokes up as injured Marine hands him dog tag

Prince-HarryA young woman nearly brought Prince Harry to tears on Sunday at Buckingham Palace.

U.S. Marine Kirstie Ennis tried to hand over the dog tag of her fallen colleague to Prince Harry, 31, after finishing a 1,000-mile marathon trek for charity through the U.K. with five others, reports People.

Ennis, 24, was wounded in a 2012 helicopter crash in Afghanistan. The vet was supposed to have her leg amputated this summer, but she wanted to do the charity walk first and postponed the procedure.

She had left 24 other dog tags around the U.K. throughout her walk, but when she tried to give Prince Harry, who is also a veteran, one, he choked up.

“No I can’t, I can’t accept this,” he said, nearly in tears.

Ennis pressed him to accept the memento. “Please, you know what this means to me, I want you to,” she said. The two then hugged.

The tag was once Corporal Baune’s, who was originally from Minnesota. Baune was killed in Helmand Province in 2012 in a blast.

Ennis said that Baune “passed away just 10 days before my helicopter went down and I was injured and the two guys who got blown up with him, Brad and Chris, and are missing their legs now have been part of my own support network in dealing with my own injuries.”
